How to cook tasty White rice

Measuring cups that come in with the rice cooker can be used for measuring rice.

If measuring cups are not available or there are preferences for the amount of water, the following standard can be used.

Rice is measured in “cups” as the weighing unit. “1 cup” equals 150g or 180cc.

Usually speaking, Japanese rice requires 3-4 washes. However, as the rice of KUBOTA Rice Industry is “washing-free rice” produced by the latest milling machines, it only requires one wash. After washing, drain off the water left in the rice.

Another key to cooking rice is the amount of water. Generally speaking, brown rice require more water than white rice. You can add water as indicated by the rice cooker. A rule of thumb is 1.5 cups of water for 1 cup of rice.

✓ As new rice has a higher level of water, less water is required in cooking

✓ If one prefers the rice to be harder, less water should be added

Rice should absorb enough water before cooking.

In Japan, rice needs to be soaked for 30 minutes in summer and 2 hours in winter. Due to the hot weather in Singapore, 30 minutes of soaking is sufficient. When the rice absorbs enough water, not only the rice will be cooked properly, it will look and taste better. If there is not enough time to soak the rice, it can be done in 15 minutes in warm water of 50°c.

After that, all you have to do is to press the button to start cooking!

After the rice is done cooking, don’t open the lid just yet but leave it for 10-15 minutes, then stir it to let the water evaporate.

Finally a pot of tasty rice is ready.
